Brooks Koepka and Bryson DeChambeau finally faced off after baiting each other on social media for over a year. Koepka emerged victorious in the 12-hole match the same week he announced a new Srixon contract. Here is what he had in the bag.
RESULT: 4&3
EQUIPMENT CHOICE:
DRIVER: Srixon ZX5 with 9.5° loft, fitted with Mitsubishi Chemical Diamana D+ 70 TX shaft.
3-WOOD: TaylorMade M2 Tour HL with 16.5° loft, with Mitsubishi Chemical Diamana D+ 80 TX shaft.
IRONS: Nike Vapor Pro (3-iron) and Srixon ZX7 (4-iron to pitching wedge), with Fujikura Pro Tour Spec 95 X (3) and True Temper Dynamic Gold Tour Issue X100 (4-PW) shafts.
WEDGES: Cleveland RTX ZipCore (52° MID, 56° MID & 60° LOW), with True Temper Dynamic Gold Tour Issue S400 shafts.
PUTTER: Scotty Cameron T22 Newport 2.
BALL: Srixon Z Star prototype.
EQUIPMENT NOTES:
Koepka is still transitioning into Srixon/Cleveland equipment after last week’s announcement of his new contract, but early signs are positive for the four-time major winner who was dominant during the short lived match at Wynn Golf Club in Las Vegas. Koepka’s ZX5 driver is the same model Hideki Matsuyama won this year’s Masters with and along with the ZX7 model has proven popular on Tour. The former World No.1 is playing the same shaft in his new driver that he has played for much of his PGA Tour career.
- The first signs that a deal with Srixon was on the cards was Koepka’s insertion of the ZX7 irons into his bag earlier this year, the American using the model to claim the Phoenix Open after an extended period with Mizuno irons in the bag. Choosing to remain an equipment free agent after Nike’s departure from the manufacturing business, Koepka won his four major titles with a mixed bag of equipment and remains faithful to his Nike utility iron that has also remained in the bag of Tony Finau beyond Nike’s club making.
-
Koepka’s wedges are listed as ‘Tour Rack Raw’ models of the standard Cleveland ZipCore model. Rusting over time, Koepka’s wedges currently have a significant amount of lead tape applied to the back of the head to dial in the swing weight to suit his preferences.
-
Playing a Z-Star prototype, Koepka’s exhibition win continues a strong year for Srixon golf balls which were used to win a men’s and women’s major championship in 2021.
QUOTE: "Not going to lie, I just wanted to spank you." - Brooks Koepka to Bryson DeChambeau.
