EQUIPMENT NOTES:
Lee’s maiden major win and sixth LPGA Tour crown came courtesy of an all-round performance, with her ball striking playing a starring role on Sunday in France when she missed just two greens in regulation and hit a magnificent approach to the first play-off hole. The West Australian uses the popular ZX7 irons (reviewed HERE) from sponsor Srixon that offer workability combined with some forgiveness and are also in the bag of fellow major champion Brooks Koepka, among others. Lee’s irons are fitted with Aerotech Steelfiber shafts, which blend the benefits of steel and graphite shafts, while she also plays a ZX Utility 4-iron for some added forgiveness and launch in her longest iron.
- Having used a mallet putter for much of her professional career, and generally having favoured flatsticks with an insert in the face, Minjee made a significant switch this year by inserting a bladed Scotty Cameron into her setup. Lee’s putter features a fully milled face and like her brother, Min Woo, has recently made a change to her grip technique, opting for a left hand low style. Lee averaging just 27 putts per round for the past week.
-
Lee continues a strong run of success for Srixon drivers on the world’s biggest Tour’s with her Evian victory the second major championship won with one of the company’s new ZX drivers, after Hideki Matsuyama won The Masters with the more forgiving ZX5 model. Lee uses a fairly light shaft in her driver, which she is averaging 263 yards with off the tee this season.
-
Like the drivers from Srixon, the Z-Star series of golf balls continue to claim big titles. The company’s new model golf balls were also used by Matsuyama and Lee for their major wins, while Hannah Green and Shane Lowry both used the previous iteration to win major championships in 2019.
QUOTE: “I'm speechless. I been waiting for this for so long. It just feels unreal to have won. Just even in the playoff, and all throughout today, I played really well to get myself in that position, and I just really happy.” – Minjee Lee.
