Ruffels opened the Garden City Charity Classic at Buffalo Dunes with a 10-under 62 and followed it up overnight with an eight-under 64 to sit at 18-under overall and six shots in front of her nearest pursuer.

Mixing seven birdies, one eagle and a lone bogey at the par-4 9th during the second round, the Victorian leads the “Race to the Card” chasing an LPGA start for next season.

Canadian Selena Costabile is her nearest challenger at 12-under-par after matching Ruffels’ 64 that gave the 23-year-old the 36 hole scoring record on the Epson Tour.

Played over 54 holes in Kansas, the tournament boasts recent major winner Lilia Vu on the honour roll that Ruffels will be hoping to join come Sunday afternoon.

“You know you’re doing something right when you’re setting a record of any kind,” Ruffels told the Tour. “It’s awesome, I am super happy, but there is still one more day to go tomorrow.”

Ruffels’ fellow Aussie Cassie Porter signed for a second round 68 to sit in a share of eights, while Robyn Choi is tied 18th and Emily Mahar failed to make the cut of two-under.
