Cam Davis has been denied a chance to continue his late-season resurgence at the PGA Tour's Butterfield Bermuda Championship.
In summary
- High winds at Port Royal made conditions unplayable, forcing officials to cancel the final round and reduce the tournament to 54 holes.
- Seamus Power and Austin Smotherman, tied for the 54-hole lead, will return on Monday morning for a sudden-death playoff at the par-3 16th hole.
- A win would lock up Power's card through 2028 and a Championship Series spot, while another Smotherman title would earn a US Open berth.
Seeking to turn around a rough year, the 31-year-old Australian was heading into the closing round four shots behind joint leaders Seamus Power and Austin Smotherman and with a big payday in the offing.
However, raging wind at Port Royal caused unplayable conditions which led to the cancellation of the final round on Sunday (Monday AEDT).
Austin Smotherman and Seamus Power are to return on Monday morning for a sudden-death playoff.
Gusts topped 65 km/h in the morning on Sunday, and none of the 72 players who made the cut were able to start the final round. Officials decided a few hours later to cancel play on Sunday, and with a forecast just as dire, made it a 54-hole tournament.
Smotherman and Power were tied for the 54-hole lead, and the plan was for them to return at 9 am local time for the playoff at the par-3 16th hole, weather permitting.
Davis went bogey-free on Saturday as he followed Friday's stellar 64 with a four-under 67 third round, showing his ability in windy conditions to get to 12-under and a share of 11th place.
The most recent Monday finish on the PGA Tour was at the Travellers Championship in June, when Viktor Hovland defeated Scottie Scheffler.
The last time a PGA Tour event was reduced to 54 holes was the 2024 AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am, which ended on a Saturday.
Smotherman and Power are entered in the Mexico Open next week in Vallarta, Mexico, and a charter plane was due to take other players in the field.
Power is just outside the top 100 in the FedEx Cup Fall, and a victory would not only lock up his card through 2028, but put him in the elite Championship Series in the new 2028 schedule. Smotherman won his first PGA Tour title in Utah earlier this month. Another victory would earn him a spot in the US Open.
