South Korea’s Inbee Park made history when she won the U.S Women's Open adding to her wins in the year's first two major championships.

The women’s World No.1 carded a final round 74, her worst of the championship, to finish at eight under but it was still four strokes better than her nearest challenger, fellow South Korean I.K Kim. So Yeon Ryu, also from South Korea, was another three shots back in third. They were the only three players to finish under par at the tough Sebonack course.

Park has done what no other woman has ever done before in winning the first three major championships in a year.

"I'm just very glad that I can put my name in history," Park said.

Park has won six times in 2013, including three straight tournaments, and with this win Park added to her first U.S Women's Open title in 2008, which she won at the age of 19 to become the event's youngest champion.

"I didn't know what was going on at that time," Park said. "I played very good golf then, but I didn't know what I was playing for, and that was just my first win. It was a great championship then, but now I think I really appreciate more and I really know what this means."

Of the Aussie challengers, Karrie Webb was the best of them finishing at five over and in a tie for 13th. Fellow Queenslander Sarah-Jane Smith, who opened with an impressive one under 71, had 13 over for the four rounds and was tied for 46th. Lindsey Wright, Katherine Hull-Kirk and Stacey Keating missed the cut.

Two big questions now remain; Can Park can go on and win the Grand Slam? And, what will actually constitute a Grand Slam, four wins or five?

This year, for the first time, there are five major championships in women’s golf.

Will Park be going for a Grand Slam when she heads to St. Andrews for the Women’s British Open in August? Or will she have to win both the Open then the Evian Masters a few weeks later to claim an historic Grand Slam?

Questions no one, not even Park, really knows the answer to.

“I won Evian last year,” Park said. “It wasn’t a major then, but, yes, I still think it is a Grand Slam. Four out of five is still big.”
