France’s top female golfer, Gwladys Nocera, has confirmed she will be a starter in the 2014 Bing Lee Fujitsu Women’s NSW Open in a few weeks time.

Nocera, who thoroughly enjoys coming to Australia, would love nothing more than to lift the trophy come Sunday January 26, at an event where she has had several top 10 finishes.

“I never won at Oatlands and do like the course very much. The ALPG (Australian Tour) is doing a lot for women’s golf and I'll be very proud to win there,” Nocera said.

Nocera, is coming off one of her best seasons on the Ladies European Tour (LET) for several years. The affable Frenchwoman won twice on the LET in 2013, the Slovak Ladies Open and the China Suzhou Taihu Open. Those wins took Nocera’s total number of LET titles to 12.

The 38-year-old made the cut in all 21 events that she teed it up in and posted six top 10 including her two wins. She finished fourth on the ISPS Handa Order of Merit with E221,687.

She has attributed her success to working with Australian coach Ian Triggs.

“I have been working hard with Ian Triggs for two years and it helped me so much getting more consistent in my game and getting my confidence back,” she said.

Nocera mentioned there are many keys to playing well at Oatlands Golf Course in Sydney, however she selected driving the ball well and being smart around the greens as the top ones.

Gwladys is a regular down under, when asked what she likes about Australia she responded: “I love everything, I feel welcomed in Australia, people are nice, the weather is always great, the tournaments are awesome, everything is great!!”

Nocera is not the only French player to watch out for; spectators should also keep an eye on Valentine Derrey and Joanna Klatten. Both players are coming off their best years as professionals. Derrey finished 10th on the LET Order of Merit with Euro 97,685. Her best result was runner-up at the Hero Indian Women’s Open and she also finished tied second at the Lacoste Ladies French Open. While Klatten finished 13th on the Order of Merit with just over E92,000 and posted three top 10 finishes. Klatten is also a former winner of the Victorian Women’s Open.

The French trio will be taking on locals including Rebecca Artis, Lindsey Wright, Stacey Keating, Frances Bondad and Sarah Kemp.

The Women’s NSW Open is the first of the ALPG major tournaments and will be played from January 24 to 26.
