Teenagers Ryan Ruffels and Shelly Shin have captured the prestigious Riversdale Cup to join an honour roll of great champions from the past.
Victorian teenager Ryan Ruffels has become the youngest player ever to win the prestigious 106-year-old Riversdale Cup.

Ruffels, the son of former Australian Davis Cup tennis player Ray, was four shots off the lead heading in the final round but a closing two under 70 from Ruffels, against Sinnott’s 75, saw him capture the trophy, which has the names of the likes of Ivo Whitton, Alex Russell, Kevin Hartley, Mike Clayton, Robert Allenby and Aaron Baddeley etched into it.
Ruffels, a year 11 student at Haileybury College, said it still hadn’t sunk in that he had won such a coveted trophy.
“I managed to get into the lead early in the final round and held on from there,” Ruffels said.
“Todd is one of my best mates and it was a lot of fun to be out there playing with someone you’re mates with. “I haven’t really sat down yet to soak it all in.”

In the women’s event, Shelly Shin, from Sydney’s Concord Golf Club, was a runaway winner of the title as she was the only player to finish the four rounds under par. The 15-year-old had rounds of 72-71-72-5 to finish at two under and 15 strokes clear of second place player Bianca Ling, of Victoria.
