EQUIPMENT NOTES:
- Ranking inside the top half for driving distance on the LPGA Tour this season, O’Toole enjoyed the wide fairways of Dumbarnie Links this past week, missing just three fairways over the weekend. O’Toole uses the ultra-premium Mitsubishi Chemical Tensei White 1K shaft in her driver and fairway woods, the model described by Mitsubishi as “built for the player who seeks perfection”. The 1K fibre is thinner to create a tighter and more consistent weave and results in improved feel and consistency.
- The four-time PGA Tour winner adds to the recent success of Callaway’s Epic Speed Triple Diamond fairway woods, joining Jon Rahm at the U.S. Open and Xander Schauffele as recent champions with the model in the bag. Like his driver, Kisner’s 3-wood is fitted with a Ventus Blue shaft. He also carries a fairly rarely seen club on the PGA Tour in the form of a 2 hybrid.
- Making her debut as an LPGA member in 2011, O’Toole’s drought-breaking win was powered by an exemplary display of approach play over the weekend in Scotland. O’Toole hit 16 greens in regulation on Saturday and all 18 during Sunday’s final round when she held off fellow PXG staff player Lydia Ko. Unlike the majority of PXG’s irons, the 0211 ST does not feature adjustable weight screws and is a pure forged blade model.
- O’Toole’s win continues Titleist’s strong year on the LPGA Tour, where the brand’s Pro V1 and Pro V1x golf balls have been used to win 18 of 21 events staged, plus an Olympic Gold Medal.
QUOTE: “Words cannot describe what I am feeling right now. I still can't even – it didn't seem real. It seems very surreal, and definitely a dream come true. I can't believe it's taken this long to win but it's finally here.” – Ryan O’Toole.
