It took some help from close friend Justin Thomas, but Tiger Woods is now the co-holder of yet another record around Augusta National.
Already the youngest to win The Masters at 21 years, 104 days old in 1997, Woods is also the second oldest to win the green jacket and holds the mark for the largest margin of victory when he claimed his first major win.
That win came in his first Masters as a professional and a year after the 15-time major winner last missed the cut at Augusta, although that streak of 22 consecutive missed cuts looked likely to end on Saturday morning.
Starting the delayed second round on the projected cut line of two-over-par, Woods hit a brilliant iron to the par-3 12th only to miss the birdie try and setup an enthralling battle to make the halfway cut and join Gary Player and Fred Couples as the record holders of 23 consecutive made cuts at Augusta.
Birdie at the par-5 15th looked enough before back-to-back bogeys at the 17th and 18th took Woods to three-over and in need of help from either Sungjae Im or Thomas to push the cut line out by a shot and continue on in the cold and rainy conditions that play havoc with Woods’ often surgically repaired body.
“I've always loved this golf course, and I love playing this event. Obviously I've missed a couple with some injuries, but I've always wanted to play here. I've loved it." - Tiger Woods.
It was Thomas who provided the necessary shift in scoring, the reigning PGA Champion bogeying the 15th, 17th and 18th to move to four-over himself and make the cut line three-over.
“I've always loved this golf course, and I love playing this event. Obviously I've missed a couple with some injuries, but I've always wanted to play here. I've loved it,” Woods said as he waited to see where the cut would fall.
Despite the record, part of Tiger may have wished he could have headed home for the remainder of the weekend. The 47-year-old was back out for the third round a short time later in heavier rain and cool conditions falling back down the leaderboard.
Starting at the 10th, Woods made bogey before a horror three hole stretch saw him go bogey, double bogey, double bogey starting at the par-4 14th to sit at nine-over and in last place when play was suspended on Saturday afternoon.
Visibly struggling to walk and make his way up the hills of Augusta National, Woods faces 29 holes on Sunday to complete his 24th Masters Tournament.
