These grain flow forged wedges were a hit with our testers. Read what impressed them most about these clubs.
MODELS AND LOFTS PLAYED: Mizuno MP-T4 wedges, 52°, 56° and 60° with a black
nickel finish.
FIRST IMPRESSIONS: The practice swings I took gave me some confidence as these wedges brush the ground nicely. The dark finish of the MP-T4s looks good but I don’t know whether it contributes to the feel or not.
VERDICT: I used the 56° on the 1st hole for a tricky pitch over a bunker and couldn’t stop it on the green but I liked the way it lofted up. I was in a lot of bunkers so the 60° got a good workout. I managed to get the ball out every single time and – for me – out very well. I was quite happy with that. I had confidence that I could lay the clubface flat and just throw it at the sand and the ball would pop out and basically stop. And it was the same case with full-swing shots. I used the 56° into the last green from 75 metres away and it landed and stopped perfectly.
I wasn’t so keen on the gap wedge, the 52°. The first time I hit it, it was terrible, the second time wasn’t too bad but I think I would rather have my pitching wedge than the 52°. That said, I would probably need time to find out its best ‘fit’ and which shots it’s best suited for.
MODELS AND LOFTS PLAYED: Mizuno MP-T4 wedges, 50°, 54° and 58° lofts in the white satin chrome finish.
FIRST IMPRESSIONS: These feel great. I like the weight in the clubheads and they just feel solid and comfortable in my hands. Being a high handicapper, sometimes I struggle with wedges but these wedges were terrific.
VERDICT: There’s a lot to like at impact with the MP-T4 wedges. Impact is crisp and provides that nice ‘click’ sound you’re always looking for. There’s no ‘give’ and I like the overall design.
I liked the way the ball came off the face from those half shots when I had them. This was also one of those rare days when I stayed out of the sand for most of the round! On our 10th hole I did find myself in a fairway bunker facing an awkward 50-metre shot and I used the 50° wedge and it came through the sand cleanly and beautifully and the ball settled pin high on the green.
I really enjoyed the MP-T4s and would certainly recommend them to any golfer looking to upgrade their wedges.

MIZUNO SAYS: “The MP-T4 was designed with input from World No. 2 Luke Donald and other Mizuno staff members to be the most versatile high-spin wedge on the market.
“The primary point of difference with MP-T4 wedges is the Quad Cut Grooves, where the 50° to 54° wedges have deeper, narrower grooves for more control on full shots and the 56° to 60° wedges have wider, shallower grooves for extra spin on short shots.
“For the ultimate feel where it counts, MP-T4 wedges are Grain Flow Forged from 1025E ‘Pure Select’ mild carbon steel. Mizuno’s high-spin Quad Cut Grooves combine with the innovative Dynamic Gold ‘Spinner’ shaft to maximise spin.
“A newly designed and more playable sole features aggressive heel and toe relief for consistent shot-making from any lie. For the player that prefers a teardrop head shape, the MP-T4 is the perfect scoring weapon.”
