Introduced in 2019, the first generation of Callaway’s ERC Soft golf ball marked an entirely new category for the company: a ball built for maximum distance and soft feel. And the new version builds on its predecessor’s success and characteristics.
Named for company founder Ely Reeves Callaway, the ERC Soft is Callaway’s longest golf ball with soft feel.
The 2021 iteration benefits from an all-new ‘Hybrid Cover’ that enhances every key area of performance in the premium distance ball category.
The ball's ‘High Energy Core’ is specifically designed for distance, raising ball speeds throughout the entire bag, whilst working with the ‘High Speed Mantle’ layer to further add distance as well as spin and control when approaching the green.
Creating a more efficient process of energy transfer between the layers of the ERC Soft, the mantle increases wedge spin around the greens to blend distance and control.
The true standout technology of the new model however, is the new cover formulation featuring a ‘PARALOID Impact Modifier’ developed by DOW Chemical.
The multi-material construction works throughout the bag to achieve optimal performance, raising launch and lowering spin for distance with the long clubs, offering soft feel and durability, as well as improved control on approach shots.
"The best explanation of the new PARALOID 2.0 cover is that we have added another element to the cover that helps blend the 2 types of Ionomers together. We blend a harder Ionomer with a softer Ionomer which results in a cover that creates faster ball speeds for more distance with better durability and more spin around the green," Callaway Golf South Pacific's Product manager Ben Chester told Golf Australia magazine.
“The PARALOID allows us to make this ball so fast, and with so much spin,” a Callaway statement said.
Like its predecessor, the new ERC Soft features ‘Triple Track’ alignment utilising ‘Vernier Hyper Acuity’ to improve alignment particularly when putting.
The three-lined technology has become extremely popular, with the company’s Tour players using its Chrome Soft models and average golfers alike.
The new ERC Soft will be available around Australia on February 25 and will be offered in both white and yellow.
RRP: $59.99 (dozen).
