Curlewis Golf Club is one of Australia’s most improved courses of the past decade, with its success coming on the back of years of “just getting by”.
All that changed, however, when the club’s members voted in favour of selling to local winery owners, Lyndsay and David Sharp, back in 2015. More than $1 million was immediately invested in upgrading the layout, which included retaining the design services of Mike Clayton. His advice over the years has been minimalist rather than massive overhaul. Bunkers have been added, some greens remodelled, trees removed and some subtle tweaks including the realignment of some tees made.
The result has seen Curlewis – which is one hour from Melbourne and just 15 minutes’ drive from Geelong – climb in every national ranking published in recent years.

On January 27, 2018 Curlewis opened its state-of-the-art 18-bay driving range and teaching academy, The Range @ Curlewis. This facility is the only one of its type in regional Victoria and combines a fully licensed bar, restaurant/café, function room, outdoor viewing to the range and two-tiered mini golf course. The teaching academy is staffed by PGA Teaching Professionals and in additional to individual and group lessons also offers club fitting. The facility is equipped with two X-Golf simulators.
