Cleary: if bunkers are hazards, why do we rake them?
The venerable game of golf, according to the noble Scottish weirdos and beardies and old-money dandies who first decided the sandy dunes “linking” the arable land and the sea could be used to to whack feather-filled leather balls about the place and thus fill in the new thing called "leisure time", was never meant to be fair.

Huggan: Can we have our Old Course back please?
By the presumably informed calculation of a guy going by the name, Tiger Woods, the Open Championship is not scheduled to return to the Old Course at St. Andrews until 2030. This is no bad thing.

Clayton: Bunkers 101
Believe it or not, bunkers are not scattered across a golf course simply to make your life a misery. The great designers used them to improve the strategy of their creations, but, as Mike Clayton points out here, not all bunkering is good and often it can be misplaced to make a hole more difficult.
