The Worrell’s Women’s NSW Open has received a timely boost with a significant prizemoney increase.
The tournament, to be played at Dubbo Golf Club from February 27 to March 1, forms an integral part of the 2020 Ladies European Tour (LET) and Australian Ladies Professional Golf Tour (ALPG).
Coinciding with the launch of the re-vamped (LET) schedule for 2020, competitors in this year’s championship will be vying for a total prize purse of EU210,000 (AU$324,000), a jump of over $200,000 from last year.
Headlining this year’s field will be two-time defending champion, England’s Meghan MacLaren. The 25 year old, who claimed the last two Opens at Coffs Harbour in 2018 and Queanbeyan in 2019, will almost certainly be the player to beat.
Also in the field will be no less than 10 current winners on the LET Tour, including 2018 Australian Ladies Classic champion Marianne Skarpnord of Norway, Christine Wolf of Austria and Thai sensation, 17-year-old Atthaya Thitikul, who as a 14-year-old amateur, stunned the sport by taking out her first LET Tour title, the Ladies European Thailand Championship in 2017.
“This is an incredibly deep, and talented field for what is shaping up to be a fantastic week of women’s golf.” – Graeme Phillipson
Australia is well represented with Forster-Tuncurry’s Sarah Kemp and Western Australia’s Whitney Hillier also strong chances to take out the title.
General Manager of Golf, Graeme Phillipson was thrilled with the quality of this year’s field.
“This is an incredibly deep, and talented field for what is shaping up to be a fantastic week of women’s golf.
“The increase in prizemoney is a significant factor in attracting many of the European players.
“The sporting community of Dubbo and western NSW are in for a real treat, Mr. Phillipson said".
