EQUIPMENT NOTES:
DeChambeau’s driving was once again the focus of his play this week, with the reigning U.S. Open champion attempting to drive a par-5 over the weekend. Despite being stamped at 7.5˚, DeChambeau’s driver carries at least two degrees less of true loft, with a reinforced head. Many of the 27-year-old’s club lofts are strengthened to fit the gaps in his bag, including his two 3-woods that also vary in shaft length and weight.
- As well as leading the field in driving distance, including a longest drive of 377 yards on Sunday, DeChambeau’s approach play was strong all week, ranking third in Greens in Regulation. Now well known for his one length irons, DeChambeau’s irons are fitted with graphite shafts and feature a variety of models, while his wedges are bent stronger than their stated lofts.
DeChambeau’s win is the first for Bridgestone’s Tour B range of premium golf balls in 2021 on the PGA Tour, he also has the company’s other victory during the wraparound season on the world’s top men’s circuit.
QUOTE: “It's beyond my wildest dreams for Mr. Palmer's event. Came here as an amateur, he gave me an invitation and I loved this golf course the minute I arrived and I love the atmosphere and I love the fans, I loved what Mr. Palmer did with this place and what he's done and his legacy he's left here. It's quite amazing.” – Bryson DeChambeau.
