FINAL LEADERBOARD

EQUIPMENT NOTES:

  • Sorenstam has always been a clinical player and carries a similar setup to that of her days on the LPGA Tour since turning 50 and qualifying for the recently created U.S. Senior Women’s Open. Like so many of the players on the main Tours, Sorenstam opts for Fujikura’s Ventus shafts in her driver and fairway woods, with the highest launching red the choice for Sorenstam. In addition to the changes of loft and shaft length from driver to 5-wood, Sorenstam also goes up in weight per shaft to dial in the carry distance of each club and achieve consistent swing weights in her woods.

  • One of the club types that was far less common in Sorenstam’s time on the LPGA Tour is the hybrid she carries between her 5-wood and 5-iron. The 20° Mavrik the 50-year-old carries is an often used part of her arsenal since playing intermittent events in the lead-up to this event and allows for a perfectly gapped setup that includes four wedges.

  • A long-standing mallet user throughout her career, Sorenstam’s Odyssey putter is the same head used by Jon Rahm to win the men’s U.S. Open earlier this year, with the two flatsticks differing in neck type and face insert. Sorenstam using the original White Hot insert during her time as World No.1 and now the reimagined OG version from Odyssey released earlier this year.

  • Sorenstam completes a magnificent weekend for Callaway golf players, with staffers winning the Men’s Olympic Competition, on the European Tour and a senior women’s major. The former World No.1’s win is the third major won with a Callaway Chrome Soft X golf ball this year.

QUOTE: “Ava kept telling me, ‘When you hit a shot tomorrow, Mommy, don't have anything in your mind.’ And then Will told me to believe that I can do it, and Mike said, ‘Just go out there and enjoy.’” – Annika Sorenstam.
