PGA TOUR – BMW CHAMPIONSHIP

Brendan James – Golf Australia Editor

When every aspect of a player’s game suggests they are due for a win, they’re due. Will Zalatoris was long overdue last week and another who appears destined to win sooner rather than later is ADAM SCOTT.

Has been playing solid golf for most of the year, but has been superb (with the exception of the odd round) in the past three months. T5 last week might have been the confidence booster he needs to get his first PGA Tour win since 2020 Genesis.

I’ve tipped him plenty of times this year and once again I am going back to the ADAM SCOTT well.

The Aussie was very good last week on the way to a top-5 finish, and he thrives in the Playoffs and will want to make sure he gets a spot at Eastlake where he has a history of success.

Scotty has the sort of game that will be very well suited to Wilmington Country Club, and his putting has been rock solid of late that will help around a new track for almost the entire field and with large undulating greens.

The enduring memory from the 2019 Presidents Cup at Royal Melbourne (Tiger Woods’ brilliance aside) was SUNGJAE IM.

What Sungjae can't do with a golf ball likely can't be done and after some strong play last week (on the back of consecutive runner-up finishes in his two prior starts) it’s his time.

Mark Hayes – Man About Golf

Do you remember when Billy Haas played that magical wedge from eight feet below water level, 12th Man-style? Or when Jimmy Furyk joined the 59 club in Chicago? Possibly not. That’s because they both came from the days when the focus of the FedExCup was actually on golf.

Yep, it’s true. If you’re young or new to pro golf, you’re just going to have to trust me.

This week, for example, with Cam Smith out with a hip issue, let’s see how many times “hip” is translated into its Arabic equivalent, “LIV”. The line is 11.5 per broadcast, or 1011.5 if you’re on Twitter.

So I’m going to pin my hopes on TONY FINAU to keep me entertained. Has shed a couple of putts per round in past month and that equates to an absolute gold mine on the PGA Tour.

Already has a pair of wins in that time, so he’s playing with house money.

DP WORLD TOUR – D+D REAL CZECH MASTERS

Brendan James – Golf Australia Editor

Has EDDIE PEPPERELL found his game?

Two top-20s and a runner-up finish in his past three starts suggest he might have. Three top-10s in this event adds some weight to my selection.

Not to mention he’s a classy player who won’t be bothered too much by this resort course layout.

It is impossible to go past THOMAS PIETERS here.

The Belgian bomber has won twice around Albatross, is in good form and is one of the better players in a somewhat weaker field.

There’s one name standing out in this week’s field and it’s two-time winner THOMAS PIETERS.

The Belgian’s form on this course in this tournament is exemplary with two victories and a runner-up in five tries. This year’s field is also a little weaker than it otherwise might be given several players have gained starts in the Korn Ferry Tour finals in the U.S.

In this tournament’s seven editions, five players have earned their maiden Tour title at Albatross Golf Resort. This means, as it does here, that the fields are only marginally stronger than BJ’s resolve to maintain a diet on a trip to Sizzler.

Which gives me the perfect excuse to go deep in search of the long-odds lead in this competition. Lock me in for JOAKIM LAGERGREN – the Swedes have kicked butt lately, admittedly mostly in the women’s game, but nonetheless …

ASIAN TOUR – INTERNATIONAL SERIES KOREA

Brendan James – Golf Australia Editor

It has been an up and down year for PHACHARA KHONGWATMAI but the Thai arrives here after a share of second last week in Singapore and is likely to feature again in Korea.

Khongwatmai finished one back of Nitithorn Thippong at Tanah Merah and could have claimed a second Asian Tour win if not for a slightly disappointing Sunday 71.

Has also produced some decent form in his three LIV starts, and will want to perform well for the rest of the year to maintain a spot on the lucrative new circuit.

Finally we come to the International Series, where there are so many Aussies in the field our man Mark Hayes must have had a near conniption trying to pick one to throw his support behind.

For mine, TODD SINNOTT is not only the standout Australian but the standout player in the field as a whole.

Sinnott was outstanding on Sunday in Singapore, where he set the clubhouse lead, and feels like he is right around the corner from another victory as he continues his return to professional golf. Look for a huge summer of golf at home from the Victorian as well!

LIV Light might be a more apt description of these International Series events featuring much stronger fields than the regular Asian Tour tournaments.

That’s the case again this week but for mine it will be another local victory with the young Thai player SADOM KAEWKANJANA. Sixth on the International Series Order of Merit and eighth on the Asian Tour Order of Merit there is a lot to play for this week and I expect Kaewkanjana to lift.

Mark Hayes – Man About Golf

I was super impressed with TODD SINNOTT’s closing round in Singapore, mostly because he finished it before the 18th fairway became the scene for high farce for the final group.

It’s just another feather in the belief cap for the big Melburnian who’s clearly overcome his ailments and will soon cash in like so many of his amateur peers. He is very good and just needs that magical breakthrough moment – and it looks very close to me.
