PGA TOUR - THE HONDA CLASSIC

Brendan James – Golf Australia Editor

LEE WESTWOOD is the form player in world golf at the moment and if continues his stellar form at PGA National he’ll complete an amazing three week run.

‘Westy’ has had four top-10s in this event so I expect he’ll give himself every chance to claim the title.

There is plenty to like about former champions Adam Scott and Sungjae Im here, but I am going to go with SHANE LOWRY on the back of his eighth at TPC Sawgrass last week.

Lowry is a very solid ball striker and owns one of the most creative and brilliant short games on Tour, a combination that will serve him very well at PGA National this week, where something close to par is a very good score typically.

The reigning Open Champion also recorded his best finish of T21 here last year and has never missed the cut at The Honda.

Sportsbet odds: $23.

ADAM SCOTT has been nothing if not consistent since returning to the PGA Tour last August. The former World No.1 has made 12 of 12 cuts – but he has never really been a factor on Sundays.

I can see that changing this week at PGA National, where he won in 2016 and recorded top-15s in 2018, 2017 and 2014.

The Presidents Cup in 2019 opened the eyes of many of us to the supreme talent that is this week’s defending champion, SUNGJAE IM, and after three excellent rounds and one shocker at TPC Sawgrass (a this round 77 saw him finish T17) he looks a decent chance to go back to back at PGA National.

He’s been bumping along in decent though not great form for the best part of a month and a half and for a player of his calibre is about due to put it all together for you days.

EURO TOUR - MAGICAL KENYA OPEN

Brendan James – Golf Australia Editor

Italy’s GUIDO MIGLIOZZI won the last staging of this event in 2019 and, given his good form in Qatar last week, it’s hard to go past him in this field. If he can improve his work from the tee, he’ll be in the top three by Sunday afternoon and pushing for a third European Tour win.

Sportsbet odds: $21.

I am sticking with MAVERICK ANTCLIFF this week after a decent showing in Qatar last week.

Antcliff hit the ball well in his return to the European Tour last week and gets a good chance to chase a first win on the circuit against not one of the strongest fields that will tee it up this year.

Sportsbet odds: $67.

South African JUSTIN HARDING finished runner-up at Karen CC when this event was last played in 2019 and has been in decent enough form lately, despite missing the cut in Qatar last week.

The 35-year-old is a solid all-round player and his best is certainly good enough for him to be thereabouts this weekend.

After a close call last week in Qatar (he finished one shot behind winner Antoine Rozner) it’s hard to go past defending champion Guido Migliozzi in Kenya this week. The Italian hoisted the trophy in 2019 when the tournament joined the European Tour and didn’t get the chance to defend in 2020 when COVID cancelled the event.

However, as good a bet as Migliozzi looks I’ll be going with American KURT KITAYAMA this week as he continues to ride a wave of good form including a T9 in Qatar. Already a two time winner on the European Tour, Kitayama is a good chance to add a third title this week in Africa.
