Charley Hull’s late collapse has handed 17-year-old Anna Huang a fourth Ladies European Tour title after a dramatic finish to the PIF London Championship at Centurion Club.
Huang, who led from the opening round, started the final day three shots clear and remained in control until the closing holes.
After a birdie at the 15th, Huang found the water at 16 and made a clutch bogey, allowing home favourite Hull to take the lead with a birdie.
But Hull’s advantage lasted just one hole. The Englishwoman four-putted the 17th for a double bogey, putting Huang back in front before the Canadian sealed victory in spectacular fashion by holing her eagle putt on the 18th for a 22-under-par total.
“That was probably the most thrilling round of golf of my life. That was crazy. I have no words. I’m just so shocked,” said Huang.
“I can’t believe I made another eagle [on 18]. I focused on the putt and made a good stroke, and it went in.”
The victory makes Huang the youngest player to win four LET titles, achieving the feat at 17 years, 9 months and 10 days, surpassing Lydia Ko’s previous record.
“A year ago, I was at a really low point in my life, and golf wasn’t really fun for me. I was dealing with all these thoughts, but with the help of my family and all my support, I was able to get myself back together and push through that part,” she said.
Hull finished runner-up at 20-under following a final-round 69, while Singapore’s Shannon Tan fired a nine-under 64 to finish third at 17-under.
Australia’s Kelsey Bennett was fifth at 14-under, one shot behind Thailand’s Patty Tavatanakit.
Huang also moves to second in the LET Order of Merit, with South Africa’s Casandra Alexander retaining the lead.
