PGA TOUR - MEMORIAL TOURNAMENT

Brendan James – Golf Australia Editor

Same venue different field this week, with 67 players arriving at Jack’s Place to join the 89 who knocked it around in the Workday event. One of the newbies is none other than TIGER WOODS, who makes his first appearance since teaming with Peyton Manning for The Match in May. He’s won five times at the Memorial and even when he was out of form he would get himself in contention here.

There is so many players that look good here based on performances last week on the same track or previous efforts at Jack’s place. But I simply cannot go past TIGER WOODS.

Five times a winner in this event, Woods has only being seen competitively in the hit and giggle at Medalist with Phil Mickelson and some NFL legends, however, his game looked great particularly with the sometimes suspect driver. Competitive rust is a concern, but if anyone knows how to manage it, it is the 15-time major winner, while many others will be starting to fatigue having played most of the events since the PGA Tour return.

Ball strikers win here, and Tiger is among the best ever.

Sportsbet odds: $23.

World No.2 JON RAHM hasn’t posted anything better than T27th since the Tour’s resumption – but he looked to have found something in the final round last week when he fired eight-under 64.

The Spaniard had only played here once prior to last week (2017) and should now be more familiar with the layout. So, despite the strength of the field, I think he’s way overs at $21.

He hasn’t shown a whole lot since the Tour kicked off again but JASON DAY’s final round 67 to push into the top 10 at the Workday didn’t go unnoticed. While his track record at Muirfield Village is surprisingly poor given he lives close by, Sunday’s form will have him long on confidence come Thursday.

Sportsbet odds: $67.

EUROPEAN TOUR - EURAM BANK OPEN

Brendan James – Golf Australia Editor

Spain’s ADRI ARNAUS would have been disappointed with his T62 finish in the Austrian Open last week, especially having carded two sub-par rounds heading into the weekend, only to dish up an ordinary 77 on moving day. The World No.113 will be among the contenders this week, if he can show a little more consistency from one round to another.

Sportsbet odds: $12.

Last week’s runner-up MARCEL SCHNEIDER looks the pick for the second straight week in Austria for me. The German wasn’t having the best year on the Challenge Tour early in 2020 but obviously found something during the break.

A former standout amateur Schneider has winning pedigree (2018 Swiss Challenge) and will look to take advantage of another main Tour start with his confidence running extremely high.

Sportsbet odds: $41.

Dutchman JOOST LUITEN is the clear standout this week and should be in the thick of things come Sunday. The 34-year-old shot four rounds of 65 at the Austrian Open last week to share 18th place and hasn’t missed a cut all year.

Sportsbet odds: $5.50.

JOOST LUITEN faded after a fast start last week (opening with 65) but with the rust now knocked off his game – and in a field missing most of the Tour's bigger names – he will be worth a look at GC Adamstal.

Sportsbet odds: $5.50.
