LPGA TOUR - WOMEN'S AUSTRALIAN OPEN

Brendan James – Golf Australia Editor

Conditions look like they will be fairly benign at Royal Adelaide, which will play into the hands of the best ball-strikers as they just take dead-aim.

I really liked the way SU OH finished her Vic Open campaign charging into T6 with a closing 68, which was the best score of the final round. She will be enthused by playing on a classically designed layout like Royal Adelaide.

HANNAH GREEN knocked off some competitive rust last week at the Vic Open and will be raring to go this week. The West Australian has made it very clear in the past that she considers the Australian Open, where she hasn’t missed the top-20 in four starts, a major and she has proven herself on golf’s biggest stage already, and Green is a lover of all things Adelaide golf.

Both Minjee Lee and Hannah Greens will fancy themselves to end the six-year Australian drought at their national Open this week. But I reckon SU OH is the one to get the job done. The Victorian was excellent through three rounds at Royal Adelaide in 2017 and returns in form, having shared sixth place at 13th Beach last week.

With three legitimate - and motivated - chances I think we might see the first Australian victory in this event since Karrie Webb in 2014. Minjee Lee, Su Oh and HANNAH GREEN each have a compelling case to make but for mine it is Green - who struggled mightily with her game at 13th beach last week yet still finished just outside the top 10 - who has the edge. Green said ahead of last year’s Women's Open that this tournament was more important to her than the majors and now that she has one of those she will be on a mission to lift the Patricia Bridges Bowl. Her first Open as a professional came at this course and tournament in 2017 and she finished T7 so will be comfortable and have a lot of good memories this week.

PGA TOUR - GENESIS INVITATIONAL

Brendan James – Golf Australia Editor

ADAM SCOTT makes his first appearance on the PGA Tour for 2020 and it comes at a course that really suits his eye. Has admitted to having some issues with his driving but I expect his prolonged break since winning the Australian PGA will have seen him iron out the problems. Always performs well at Riviera.

Sportsbet odds: $29.

JIMMY EMANUEL – Golf Australia Deputy Editor

This is a seriously good field and ADAM SCOTT often finds his best golf when teeing it up against the best of the best. There could be some competitive rust given Queenslander hasn’t teed it up since breaking his win drought at the Aussie PGA, however, Scott is a proven performer around Riviera, is putting as well as he has in recent memory and has a history of playing well early in the year.

Sportsbet odds: $29.

Former World No.1 JASON DAY will return to this event in style after a three-year absence from Riviera. The Queenslander looked good at Pebble Beach until the final round and will connect the remaining dots this week to claim his first Tour victory since May, 2018.

California native PATRICK CANTLAY likes his golf close to home and after another good result at Pebble Beach - T11 - this could be his week. Two missed cuts in his first two Riviera appearances  were less than impressive but a T4 and T15 in the last two years suggest he has learnt something in his outings there.

PGA TOUR OF AUSTRALASIA - QLD PGA

Brendan James – Golf Australia Editor

JAKE MCLEOD finished T5 at City GC back in 2018 and has recorded six top-10s on the Australasian PGA Tour since. Loves playing at home and his form looks good for a run at a title after finishing 6th at the Vic Open.

Sportsbet odds: $21.

JIMMY EMANUEL – Golf Australia Deputy Editor

I can’t see anyone besting JAKE MCLEOD around City Golf Club this week. The 25-year-old showed real mettle to regain his European Tour card at Qualifying School in late 2019 and again displayed some great golf at 13th Beach last week. And McLeod’s consistent and accurate game should suit here.

Sportsbet odds: $21.

It wasn't to be for MARCUS FRASER at 13th Beach last week as Min Woo Lee proved simply too good. But the former Olympian will still be pleased with his share of third place and will ride that form into this week to claim the silverware.

Sportsbet odds: $13.

He might be the most overlooked man in Australian golf but that won’t bother MATT MILLAR whose record at City Golf Club is exemplary. Three times he has finished second - including a play-off loss to New Zealand’s Daniel Pearce in 2017 - but after a particularly good week at the Vic Open he might just be ready to exact his revenge.

Sportsbet odds: $15.

OUR BEST BETS OF THE WEEK

Brendan James – Golf Australia Editor

Hannah Green is at unbelievable odds ($3.30) just to finish in the top-10. Combined in a two-leg multi with Adam Scott ($4.33) to finish top-10 in the Genesis.

Sportsbet odds: $14.28.(two-leg multi).

JIMMY EMANUEL – Golf Australia Deputy Editor

Adam Scott is paying a fairly generous $4.33 to finish in the top-10 in LA, combine that with Hannah Green keeping the Aussie wins coming in 2020 at the Women’s Australian Open paying $29 as a multi …

Sportsbet odds: $125.57 (two-leg mutli).

Michael Jones – Golf Australia writer

World No.10 Justin Rose returns to action this week at Riviera and is paying $10 to beat Jon Rahm and Rory McIlroy as the top European Player. Not bad considering he was T4 the last time he played here in 2017.

Sportsbet odds: $10.

Elvis Smylie to finish top 10 at the QLD PGA. It flew under the radar but finishing in red figures at The Australian Open - and T33 at the age of 17 - suggests the left hander has a big future in the game and he will enjoy the challenge this week.
