Tim Kirkby, an elite athlete at the Freshwater Surf Life Saving Club on the Northern Beaches, recently passed away after his third bout of cancer. He was only 28. By his side was his wife Emily and their 11-month-old son, Arlo.

Tim was first diagnosed with Lymphoma when he was 19 years old – but he fought hard and was in remission by the time he met Emily one year later in 2012. Unfortunately the Lymphoma returned when Tim was 22. But, again, he recovered. This time with the help of a stem cell transplant and further chemotherapy treatment.

Emily and Tim married each other in 2017 and Arlo was born two years later thanks in large part to IVF. Devastatingly, however, Tim had been told he had another, rarer form of cancer. He had received the crushing news just two weeks prior to his son’s arrival.

Tim was up for the fight. He battled gallantly and had the support of his family every step of the way. But he eventually succumbed to the cruel disease on May 14, 2020, one day before Emily’s birthday.

Here’s how you can help …

Like any young man, Tim wanted to leave a legacy for his son and young wife, ensuring they would have access to essential care, education and life experiences. But he was, of course, unable to get life insurance. So, friends of Tim and Emily have set up an online auction to help raise funds for Tim’s dream for Emily and Arlo.

There are some fantastic items up for grabs – 45 in total – including a Masters pin flag signed by the legendary Arnold Palmer, Jack Nicklaus and Gary Player (pictured right).

You can also bid on a Tiger Woods-signed photo set and golf ball. The piece comes framed and – like all the memorabilia featured – includes a letter of authenticity.

A luxurious stay and play package at The Vintage Golf Club in the Hunter Valley is sure to attract plenty of attention, too.

Some of the other items up for auction include a magnificent Trek Cruiser E-Bike; a framed and signed photo collection of “The Invincibles” cricket team; a scenic helicopter flight; and an Argentinian football jersey signed by Lionel Messi and Diego Maradona.
