Adam Scott has produced a scintillating back nine to fire an excellent 67 to be three-under for the tournament. Sam Burns leads by one shot after a cracking day at Oakmont Country Club. Here is how the day unfolded.
Scott and Burns will play in the final pairing on Sunday. JJ Spaun and Viktor Hovland will precede them. A blockbuster Championship Sunday is on the cards, with our very own Adam Scott chasing a second major championship 12 years on.
9:55 am: Spaun is in the bunker, jumping to get a glimpse of the flag. Heavy connection, he will need to make a big-breaking putt to stay at four-under.
Great lag putt from Burns, he will have three-feet to get in the clubhouse at four-under. He sneaks it in.
Spaun misses his par attempt, he will tap in to be tied with Scott at three-under.
9:50 am: The final pair are at the 18th. Spaun hits one massively right into the gallery off the tee, Burns also misses the fairway to the right.
Spaun finds the greenside bunker, Burns hits one to the back edge of the green. A very tricky putt.
Scott very nearly makes his lengthy birdie putt on 18, taps in for par and a 67, what a day for the nearly-44-year-old. Hovland has to settle for bogey and an even par 70.
9:40 am: Early tee pick up for Scott on 18, just stipes one 331-yards down the centre, looks in absolute control. Hovland misses the fairway. Spaun finds the same bunker Scott did on 17, Burns just short, right and in the fairway.
Burns stiffs one, has not been at his best off the tee today but the rest of his game has been phenomenal, he taps in for his birdie. Spaun will have a similar putt to the one Scott had on 17, and has the same result. Spaun breaks a streak of 12 pars. The final pairing share the lead at four-under.
Hovland forced to lay up on the par-4 18th from the fairway bunker. Poor iron shot from Scott, finds the fat part of the green.
9:30 am: Burns makes bogey at 16 to fall back to three-under and a share for the lead with Spaun. Scott drives it into the greenside bunker on the driveable 17th, not a bad leave especially with how his bunker play has been today. Hovland is well right but has drawn a decent lie in the rough.
Hovland hits it to three-feet. What a shot. Scott's bunker shot checks a bit much, not one of his better bunker shots of the day. Still a good look for birdie and a share of the lead. Up the hill, not much in it - will expect to make this.
And he does. Adam Scott is in the share of the lead at the U.S Open.
Lawrence finishes with an even-par 70 - one-over for the tournament.
9:15 am: Burns tugs one into the left bunker on 15, Spaun takes dead aim at the flag. Glorious iron shot from Scott on the par-3 16th, he will have a look from 20-feet to get to three-under.
Burns plays a flawless shot from the bunker, his par will be no issue. Spaun stalking this read, but leaves it just above the hole. Dissapointing day for Brooks Koepka, bogey at the last for 73 and five-over for the tournament. You'd think he is out of contention now.
Scott burns the edge with his birdie putt, taps in for par.
9:00 am: Bad miss from Scott on 15, leaves himself in the greenside bunker on the right - massively short sided. But he shows a touch a class and will have a tap-in for his par, Hovland matches him.
8:55 am: Spaun has a great look for birdie on 14 while Burns had to hack out of the fairway bunker. 115 in for his third and it is top quality, about six-feet for par. Griffin misses his testing par putt on 15, he falls back to two-over.
Spaun misses his birdie putt - 10 pars in a row now. Burns makes his par putt to remain in the lead on his own.
8:45 am: Scott inches away from holing out on 14! What a golf shot! He has a tap-in to get to two-under and solo third. Hatton gets into the tent at one-over for the tournament. Burns misses the fairway on 14 as Spaun finds the fairway. Burns could be in a bit of strife: more to come.
Scott gets to two-under. He is two-shots back at the U.S Open.
8:40 am: Burns fires one straight at the flag on 13, he has a great look to get to four-under. Scott finds the fairway on 14 and will have a wedge into the green.
Burns makes his birdie, and walks it in with authority - he is the solo leader at Oakmont!
8:30 am: Adam Scott hits a dart into 13, could this be the moment the Queenslander gets under-par? It is! And the crowd are getting right behind him
8:25 am: Scott does opt to putt and leaves his birdie short, shouldn't be any issues making his par. Hovland makes his 5. Griffin pours one in on the par-3 13th to get back to even-par. The two Americans in the final group are refusing to budge, going tit-for-tat and not making any fatal errors around this brutal layout.
8:20 am: Scott misses the green with his third shot at the par-5 12th, has a fairly straightforward chip but will likely look to putt. Hatton drives the green on 17 and has a decent look at eagle.
8:15 am: Spaun has a bit of work left for his par on 11, but sneaks it in. Ortiz makes his first bogey of the day on his final hole, 67 for the Mexican on moving day who now has the clubhouse lead. He will start the final day at even-par.
8:00 am: Burns is playing textbook U.S open golf, just hitting to the fat parts of the greens. Over on 11, Griffin finally gets one to drop. He moves back to one-over for the tournament. Scott has a tremendous look just slide by low of the hole.
7:55 am: Burns hits his fourth fairway of the day at 10. Scott cleans up his par on the same hole. A prime example of how things can change in the blink of an eye at Oakmont - double-bogey for Hatton at 15, he falls back to two-over.
7:45 am: Out of the divot, Spaun has almost the identical putt Scott had on the hole prior. Scott comes up a little short on 10 and lets his frustration be known, he is still putting and lags it up to four-feet. The 2013 Masters champion's putting has been phenomenal this week. Hovland makes his 18-foot putt on 10 for back-to-back birdies, he gets into red numbers.

7:35 am: Hatton has another good look at birdie on 14 and just misses it on the high side. Lucky break for Burns, he gets a nice kick into the fairway on 9. The complete opposite for Spaun, he pipes a drive down the middle and finds a divot!
7:30 am: Hovand hits the flagstick on 9, he will have a nice look at birdie. Ortiz has another birdie putt at 15, a hole that has played extremely difficult all week. It just slides by. Adam Scott somehow found the green on 9, he leaves his birdie putt about six-feet short. Hovland capatalises! He moves back to even-par.
7:25 am: Scott finds a spot of bother off the tee on 9, he will be hoping to be able to advance it forward. Burns and Spaun both find the putting surface on the daunting 8th. Griffin misses a short par putt on the 9th.

7:20 am: Hatton is on the charge, another birdie at 13 for the Englishman. Burns makes a testing par putt at 7 to remain at three-under.
7:15 am: Hatton birdies 12 to move into the top-five. Scheffler finally gets a putt to drop at 17 for birdie. Another great bunker shot from Scott, he has a tap in for par at 8 - the longest par-3 in U.S Open history.
7:10 am: Ortiz makes birdie at 14 to get into red figures, the Mexican is in third by himself.
7:05 am: Scott hits one to eight-feet on 7, fantastic iron shot. Hovland looking to get something going lets another one slide by. Burns and Spaun trade pars at 6. Scott's putt is a slipery downhiller, it catches the right lip and slides by. He will remain at even.
6:55 am: Ortiz misses his birdie putt at 13. Lawrence makes back-to-back bogeys at 7 and 8 to fall back to one-over.
6:45 am: Tyrrell Hatton is right into his work, he sits pretty at two-over for the tournament and has a birdie look on 12. Burns hits a fantastic shot into the 5th, he will have a tap-in to get back to three-under. Carlos Ortiiz is bogey-free through his last 25 holes. He makes birdie at 12 to get to even-par. Scott shows immaculate touch out of the greenside bunker, he will tap in for par and move on.
6:40 am: Poor chip from Burns, he has a bit of work left for birdie and fails to convert. Spaun makes birdie, he regains the lead by himself. Scott's birdie putt goes by on 5. The Adelaide-born Queenslander is looking really good here. Hovland makes his par and looks to be regaining some momentum.
6:30 am: South African Thriston Lawrence makes birdie at the 6th to get to within one of the lead. Scott cleans up his birdie putt. Spaun in trouble off the tee on the 4th, Burns going for the green in two and leaves it in the fringe on the right of the green. Good leave with plenty of green to work with. Spaun lays up and finds the short grass.
6:25 am: Griffin makes birdie at the 4th, he gets himself to even-par for the tournament. The World No.1's putter is seriously cold, he misses another very-makeable birdie putt and looks visibly frustrated. Adam Scott hits 3-wood into the green at 4 and lags his eagle putt to a few feet, should get the shot he dropped on the 1st back.
6:20 am: Scheffler is getting into his work here, he has a good look for birdie on 14. Spaun makes bogey and Burns makes par. They share the lead at two-under-par.
6:15am: Burns gets himself back on track by finding the green at the 3rd, he will have 15-feet for birdie. Ben Griffin is at one-over-par for the tournament. He has a birdie look at 4. JJ Spaun has had to chop hit third shot out of the thick stuff, he has 45-feet for par, could we see another swing.
6:10 am: Scott makes par at the 3rd to remain at one-over from the tournament, Hovland makes bogey. It is absolutely bucketing down now, hopefully no thunderstorms lurking. Spaun has 191-yards into the wind, ball above his feet for his second shot into 3.
6:05 am: Spaun makes his par at 2. Burns does not. We have a change at the top, JJ Spaun leads the U.S Open. The rain has started to come down at Oakmont.
6:00 am: Burns has to chop out of the bunker. At 12, Scheffler hits one tight. He will have a tap-in to get to four-over-par.
5:55 am: Burns finds the fairway bunker at 2. Scott hacks out of a terrible greenside lie, he has four-feet for his par. Hovland makes a routine par after bogey at the first. Scotty collects his par. Brooks Koepka is struggling to get going up ahead, he is four-over par for the tournament.
5:50 am: Burns and Spaun have a three-shot buffer on the field at three-under-par. Hovland has a birdie putt on 2. Scott looks to be struggling with his wedges as he misses the green left from 90 yards.

5:46 am: On 8, Jason Day was an inch away from an ace on the 253 yard par-3. Burns and Spaun both find the green on 1. Nobody has birdied the 1st all day until Spaun stepped up and binned his putt. He joins Burns in the lead.
5:37 am: Scott misses the green left as Hovland takes an unplayable after finding his ball. Behind them, the final pairing of Spaun and Burns are underway.
5:34 am: The final groups are on the tee. Adam Scott and Viktor Hovland are the penultimate pairing at even-par and one-under respectively. Scott finds the fairway with his drive as Hovland sprays one well right, having to reload with a provisional. Up ahead, Marc Leishman carded a two-under 68 to be sitting inside the top-25 currently.
