Designed with input from Rickie Fowler, and intended to mimic the American’s own clubs, Cobra’s new King Forged CB/MB progressive iron set offers soft forged feel and ball flight control in a durable black finish.
“These high-performance Cobra irons consistently deliver the workability and shot-shaping control that I need to be competitive on course. I’ve been playing them for a few years, and know better players are going to appreciate the sleek look and soft feel, along with the ability to work the ball without sacrificing forgiveness,” Fowler said of the new model.
Featuring cavity-back long irons (4-6) for forgiveness without sacrificing trajectory control, the King Forged flows seamlessly into muscle back short irons (7-PW) designed for shot making and precision, and are produced through a five-step forging process. The refined grain structure of the metal and precise shape achieved by the production method delivers feel off the clubface and a classic blade iron appearance that will appeal to better players.
To further increase the control and spin offered by the new model, Cobra employs its wedge grooves throughout the entire set, which along with the clubfaces are precisely CNC milled, while two tungsten weights located in the sole and toe of each iron improve the forgiveness and refine the centre of gravity (CG) positioning. The weights’ location matches those used in Fowler’s own prototype full-set of the MB model.
Available in golf shops around Australia from November 15, the new model’s unique black satin appearance is the result of Cobra’s ‘Diamondized Black Metal’ (DBM) finish, which reduces glare caused by sunlight and is extremely resistant to wear. And KBS $-Taper shafts in a black PVD finish match the clubheads' appearance.
Golf Pride Tour Velvet grips featuring Cobra Connect Powered by Arccos come standard on the King Forged and allow players to analyse their performance through the combination of the electronically enabled grips and game tracking system.
In addition to the standard set make-up of 4-PW, a 2-iron, 3-iron and Gap Wedge are also offered, while a full set of the cavity-back model is available in both right and left handed and a complete set of muscle-back irons like Fowler’s will be obtainable via custom order.
RRP: $229 per iron.
