Following the success of the first season of their docuseries, Full Swing, Netflix announced on Tuesday that they will be back for Season 2.
The popular streaming and content company have already started filming the second season, with a new group of PGA Tour players being targeted to give even more access during the 2023 PGA Tour season.
Full Swing premiered on February 15th, and featured eight 45 minute episodes going behind the scenes following Tour players such as Justin Thomas, Rory McIlroy and Matt Fitzpatrick, while also looking into the life of LIV recruits Dustin Johnson, Brooks Koepka and Ian Poulter.
Potentially the most intriguing aspect of the first season was following PGA Tour players Joel Dahmen and Tony Finau. Dahmen a journeyman who beat cancer and is overly self-deprecating and Finau, a multiple winner who travels from event to event with his wife and children in tow.
These angles offered a more diverse perspective to the viewer and an insight into the Tour life of the different kinds of characters that professional golf is populated by.
“They were everywhere,” Finau told the PGA Tour's website.
“On off-weeks they were home with me. I felt like they did a lot of filming. I knew when I said yes that that was a possibility. I told my wife. She was all-in, she didn’t mind it. It got to a point where it felt like they were just a fly on the wall."
The access to players and their family and friends elevated the content, getting sneak peaks into houses, plane rides and the highs and lows of winning, losing and missing cuts.
“Like so much of our growing sports slate, the compelling characters, competitive stakes, and vibrant storytelling reveal sides of the game you've never seen before, and we're excited to follow the unpredictable turns of the year ahead,” Unscripted and Documentary Series, Netflix Vice President Brandon Riegg said.
These insights are not only a victory for long time golf fans, but new fans too, helping to get new eyes on the sport, proven by the reception and popularity of the first offering.
