The 2013 Champion said despite having not played his best on a limited schedule so far this year, he likes how his game has fallen into place in the past few days and is “certainly flying under the radar” for this year’s tournament.

“My short game has been a big focus of mine for the first few months of this year and I've seen some improvements, certainly, in stats and just generally how I feel about it,” Scott said.

“I'd say it's as confident as I was when I was, you know, back winning this tournament or World No.1.  Obviously, when you're in those positions, your short game is pretty sharp. So I feel like I've taken it back up to that kind of level and confidence is high.

“Maybe my long game suffered a little because my focus shifted. But the last couple of days, I've kind of fallen back into the right spot with that (long game) and feel like each day I'm just grooving out a little bit better.

“So I like where my game is at coming in. I'm certainly flying way under the radar but that's absolutely fine.”

The 36-year-old had played just 12 tournament rounds in 2017 before missing the cut at the Shell Houston Open last week. Since announcing he and wife, Marie, were expecting their second child in August, the couple has moved from their home in the Bahamas to Queensland’s Gold Coast because of concerns over the Zika virus. With such a long commute to play on the PGA Tour, the light schedule is more than understandable.

“I haven't quite got my game together, obviously, but I use those couple days to my advantage and feel very comfortable with where things are at. A missed cut by one shot is nothing. It's all fractions in this game, so you can't let it affect your confidence too much.” - Adam Scott

While Scott admits the missed cut at Houston was not ideal, he used the weekend off to his advantage.

“You never like to miss a cut full stop,” Scott smiled. “But, you know, I think like I've heard Jordan (Spieth) talk about, going to use it to your advantage and I certainly did.

“I got here Saturday evening. I did a practice session in Houston on Saturday, got here Saturday evening and played Sunday, beautiful conditions and really found the game I was looking for. So although I don't know how a weekend would have worked for me at Houston, it could have been a good thing, it could have been a tough thing; it wasn't easy out there.

The Queenslander said his session at Houston and on the range at Augusta had centred on getting his fundamentals, including his set-up position, correct, which has him swinging better than he has for some time.

“If I get myself in a good athletic set-up position, I naturally swing the club quite well with no thought,” he said.

“I just got a little out of position starting off and therefore had to make some compensations in the swing and very hard to repeat. I worked very hard and looked at some old footage of last year when I felt really good over the ball, which was most of last year and tried to get my body and spine angles and things like that back in that kind of position.

“And once I did, although it felt a little bit tricky for a day there on Saturday in Houston, it's really fallen into place and I feel strong over the ball, like I can make a confident move through it and I'm not steering the ball toward the target. I'm just hitting straight through it.”

“You look at the guys who have showed form as good as we've ever seen this year, a few different guys … it's not going to be easy, but I'm definitely up for it.” - Adam Scott

All of which has him daring to dream of a second green jacket.

“I've seen enough good stuff to know that when I get out there Thursday, a lot of good feelings for me here at this golf course, and I like where my game has fallen just in the last couple of days,” Scott said.

“To get two major championships would be an incredible feeling. Two green jackets puts you in some pretty elite company in the world of golf.

With winds forecast to strengthen throughout the opening round, Scott’s morning tee time could prove advantageous in his quest for a second Masters title.
