Some of Australia’s most promising young golfers will converge on the Central Coast this winter, with Golf NSW confirming Magenta Shores Golf & Country Club as the venue for the 2026 NSW Junior Championship on 13 and 14 July.
Comprising both a Boys and Girls event, each contested over 36 holes of stroke play across two days, the championship is open to any amateur under the age of 18 at the commencement of competition.
Both champions will also receive an exemption into their respective NSW Open, two of the most prestigious professional events on the Australian golf calendar, and a rare opportunity for a junior amateur to test themselves against the best.
Few junior titles in this country carry the weight of history that this one does. Dating back to 1935 for boys, past champions include Steve Elkington, Peter O’Malley, Brett Ogle, Paul Gow, and Matt Jones, all of whom went on to distinguished professional careers.
For girls, the history stretches even further, to 1929, with an honour board that reads just as impressively. Dame Joan Hammond, Jan Stephenson, Rachel Hetherington, Nikki Campbell, Sarah Kemp, and Rebecca Artis are among those who first announced themselves at this event.
Golf NSW General Manager of Golf Olivia Wilson said the championship consistently draws an outstanding standard of junior competitors.
“The NSW Junior Championship always surfaces incredible talent. The standard we see from these young players year after year is genuinely exciting, and this year’s field, I’m sure, will be no different,” she said.
The 2025 edition underlined exactly that. Queensland’s Ionna Muir and The Australian’s Camilla Kim were crowned joint Girls Champions, while Ti Fox of Concord Golf Club claimed the Boys title; three performances which set a high benchmark for this year’s contenders to chase.
Competition will be played across two rounds of 18 holes, with the full 36-hole stroke play total determining each champion.
Alongside the individual titles, the championship also incorporates the NSW Junior Inter-District Championship, a team competition running concurrently with the stroke play. Players carry the added weight of representing their home region, competing as part of a squad against others from around the country.
The choice of venue adds further prestige to the occasion. Magenta Shores Golf and Country Club sits on a pristine peninsula between Tuggerah Lake and the Pacific Ocean, just 90 minutes from Sydney, and is widely regarded as one of Australia’s finest resort courses. Renowned for hosting international tournaments, the links-style layout demands a complete game and provides a spectacular backdrop befitting a championship with this level of history behind it.
Wilson said Magenta Shores provides exactly the environment Golf NSW wants its junior competitors to experience.
“Magenta Shores is a world-class venue, and we think it’s the perfect setting for a championship like this. We want our junior players competing in environments that inspire them, and this one absolutely does that,” she said.
