Mone Inami of Japan shot a three-under 69 on Sunday to win the LPGA Tour's Toto Japan Classic by one shot over Seon Woo Bae of South Korea and compatriot Shiho Kuwaki.
It was the first win on the LPGA Tour for the 24-year-old who plays predominantly on the JLPGA Tour.
"I always aim to win at least one time per year. However, I have struggled this year. I had a good start this year. However, from the middle of the season, I am struggling not only with my golf but also with my body condition. It made me unable to play well," Inami said.
Enjoyment was the theme for the first-time winner, soaking up the moment initially, but also embracing the pressure that comes with being in contention late on Sunday.
"First couple days I tried to enjoy the feeling.
"And for today, actually, the first nine holes, try to enjoy it, but it's very big pressure coming in on the back nine. So tough game."
Inami finished at 22-under 266 for the four rounds. Seon closed with a 67 and Kuwaki, who shared the lead after three rounds, slipped to a 71 at the Taiheiyo Club in north central Japan.
With her win, she now has status on the LPGA Tour. An option she will consider in the near future.
"I am very happy to get an option that I can play not only on the Japan Tour but also on the U.S Tour now." – Mone Inami.
"I am very happy to get an option that I can play not only on the Japan Tour but also on the U.S Tour now," Inami said. "I will discuss with my team to make a final decision whether we will take this option or not."
Defending champion Gemma Dryburgh of Scotland fired a 65 and finished in a tie for sixth, three strokes off the pace. A crucial finish for the Solheim Cup player, moving her inside the top-60 cut off for the CME Group Tour Championship.
"Very proud of myself to put a good defence up this week. I played really well today. Another 65 on Sunday like last year, which is nice. Yeah, just really proud of myself," the Scot said.
It was a quiet week for the Aussies, Hannah Green the pick of the bunch finished in a tie for 40th at 12-under-par.
