Mikael Lindberg has claimed his first DP World Tour title, holding off the field to win the Turkish Airlines Open by two shots and secure a maiden major championship start.
The 33-year-old closed with a three-under 69 to finish at 10-under par at the National Golf Club in Belek, Türkiye, edging playing partner Daniel Rodrigues and Italy’s Guido Migliozzi, who shared second place.
Victory caps a long-awaited breakthrough for Lindberg, who was making his 70th start on the DP World Tour. His composure down the stretch proved decisive in testing, rain-affected conditions, with the Swede pulling clear on the back nine after trading blows with Rodrigues for much of the final round.
After both players opened with birdies, Lindberg briefly slipped back before responding with a run of three birdies in four holes to seize control. He extended his advantage to two shots with a birdie at the 13th and maintained that cushion to the finish, closing out the win without late drama.
The result carries significant implications beyond the title itself. By topping the Asian Swing standings, Lindberg also secured a place at the upcoming PGA Championship at Aronimink, marking his first appearance in a major championship.
The victory continues a steady rise for the Swede, who entered the week outside the game’s elite but has now converted a final-round opportunity against a congested leaderboard.
Behind the leading trio, a group including Ewen Ferguson finished further back, unable to mount a serious challenge as Lindberg controlled proceedings over the closing stretch.
Played in difficult weather throughout the week, the tournament became a test of patience and execution. Lindberg passed both, combining timely scoring bursts with steady late-round management to secure a breakthrough victory.
