The prestigious four-day tournament, which begins tomorrow (Tuesday 15 July), is a highlight on the Australian junior golf calendar and is expected to draw more than 230 competitors from across the country.

Open to boys and girls aged 12 to 17 with a Golf Australia handicap, the championship will be played over 72 holes of stroke play across both venues. In a change from previous years, all participants will now play all four rounds, with the traditional cut removed.

Jack Newton Junior Golf General Manager Dale Hughes said it was exciting to see the event return to Eurobodalla.

“We’re thrilled to be bringing the NSW Junior Championship back to Club Catalina and Moruya in 2025,” Mr Hughes said.

“This region has a proud history of hosting quality tournaments, and we know the golf courses, the community support, and the local hospitality will create an incredible experience for the players and their families.”

The championship has a rich legacy, with past winners including some of Australia’s top professionals - Peter O’Malley, Matt Jones, Jan Stephenson, Sarah Kemp, Lucas Herbert, and David Micheluzzi.

This year’s field features a strong mix of emerging stars, including NSW Junior State Team member and 2024 Sub Junior Girl of the Year Camilla Kim, who brings strong form after wins at the Macarthur Junior Masters, NSW All Schools Championship and Fore Golf Junior Matchplay.

Joining her are fellow NSW representatives Kiara Connolly-Jackson, the 2024 Master of the Masters champion, and sisters Lara and Mimi Thomsen, with Mimi claiming victory at the 2024 Illawarra Junior Masters. Queenslander Amy Jo also shapes as a contender, entering the championship with the lowest handicap in the field following top-five finishes at both the NSW Amateur and Australian Junior.

Victoria’s Sophie Mann, a Junior and Senior State Team member and winner of the Victorian Junior Open, and dual Queensland representative Ionna Muir will also add strength to the girls’ field.

The boys’ competition is equally stacked, led by NSW State Team member Cooper Giddings, the 2024 NSW Country Champion and runner-up at both the Australian Junior and ACT Junior. Bo Chung, fresh off wins at the Victorian Junior, Illawarra Junior Masters and Macarthur Junior Masters, is also expected to contend.

They’ll be joined by Sam Cascio, the 2024 Australian Junior Amateur champion, Ian Kim, the NSW All Schools and Illawarra Junior Masters winner, and Ti Fox, who impressed with a win at the ACT Junior and a semi-final finish at the NSW Amateur.

South Coast junior and reigning South Coast Junior Masters champion Bill Eppelstun will carry the local hopes, joined by other top NSW performers including Shaylan Bennett (Blue Mountains Junior Masters) and Harry Preece (Peter O’Malley Junior Masters).

Eurobodalla Mayor Mathew Hatcher said the community was proud to host one of junior golf’s premier events.

“We’re incredibly proud that Eurobodalla has been chosen to host the 2025 NSW Junior Golf Championships,” Mayor Hatcher said.

“We can’t wait to welcome the state’s most talented young golf athletes, their families and supporters to our towns.”
