American Jessica Korda has fired a superb 11-under-par 61 to equal the lowest score on the Ladies European Tour and set the new course record at La Reserva Club Sotogrande in Spain.
The World No.14 eagled three of the four par-5s, and birdied the other on Thursday – but her card was not blemish-free as she dropped a shot at the 404-yard 8th.
However, it was more than enough to catapult her to the top of the leaderboard on day one of the Aramco Team Series, which features an individual 54-hole stroke play tournament taking place alongside a 36-hole team event.
"It was an awesome round. We had a great vibe in the group, so I was really relaxed," Korda said. "It was probably the first round I've played in about three weeks that wasn't, you know, 20-mile-an-hour so just to be able to settle into the golf course.
"Yeah, I've never made three eagles in a round, so I am definitely going to remember this one."
Her nearest rivals – Belgium's Manon De Roey and Slovenian Pia Babnik – both shot six-under 66s, while Korda's sister, Olympic champion and World No.3 Nelly Korda, fired a 67.
Rising Australian star Steph Kyriacou was in joint 10th place after a three-under 69 but her compatriot Whitney Hillier had a disappointing day, firing a four-over 76.
