Jeffrey Guan has blitzed the field on the final day at TPC Sawgrass to win the Junior Players Championship and give Australia a second win on the property in 2022.
Following Cameron Smith’s example, Guan closed with an eight-under 64 at the famed Florida home of the PGA Tour. The New South Welshman's Sunday round including nine birdies and a lone bogey also marking the lowest in the tournament’s 16 year history.
Starting the final day in a share of the lead with Jackson Koivun of America, Guan stamped his authority on the event with four straight birdies starting at the 8th hole to eventually secure his second win in the US this year after he claimed the UNIQLO/Adam Scott Junior Championship in February.
The World No.109 was also a quarterfinalist at the recent U.S. Junior and will now head home to Australia for the World Final of Ewan Porter’s adidas Junior 6s Tour, of which he has a dominant lead in the season long Boys points race.
Following the tournament at ISPS HANDA Australian Open co-host Kingston Heath next week, Guan will return to America to take his place on the International team at the Junior Presidents Cup held at Quail Hollow in the lead up to the main event.
Guan’s 16-under-par total this week broke the overall tournament scoring record by six shots, with Cole Hammer and Khavish Varadan setting the old mark of 10-under in 2016 when the event was held at Sawgrass Country Club due to renovations at the Pete Dye TPC Sawgrass.
