Sweden’s Alex Noren has fired a course record 62 to storm to victory by two strokes in the BMW PGA Championship.
The 34-year-old began the day seven shots off the pace, before riding a hot putter to a 10 under 62, which included eight birdies and a 72nd hole eagle, to claim his ninth European Tour victory.
“Today was my best putting day ever,” said Noren, who set the record for the revamped Wentworth Club layout. “I’m so lucky to get those kind of breaks with the putts, it’s not all skill, it’s a lot of luck.
“It feels amazing and very crazy, because I had no intention of trying to win this morning. I think this tournament in my mind compares a lot with a major.”

Queensland’s Andrew Dodt held the overnight lead and looked likely to become the first Australian to win the prestigious event since Mike Harwood in 1990. The two-time European Tour winner, with fellow Tour player Dimi Papadatos on the bag, shot an impressive 68 in his third round despite windy conditions, but predicted he would be full of nerves come Sunday.
“It’s going to be tough out there,” Dodt said after his third round. “There will be a few nerves … A lot of nerves there.”

Those nerves came to fruition at the 1st in the form of a bogey but were soon settled with a tremendous pitch-in birdie at the 3rd. Dodt drew another circle on the card at the par-5 4th before stalling.
He was still well in the hunt heading into the back nine, but a bogey at 11 was followed by a double bogey at the par-3 14th and a bogey at the 16th. He birdied the two closing holes to finish with a one over 73 and a share of sixth.
