Jordan Doull will take a two-shot advantage into the final round of Webex Players Series Victoria after an outstanding third round highlighted by three eagles at Rosebud Country Club on Saturday.
Doull surged to the top of the leaderboard at 14-under par, producing a flawless 8-under-par 62 to overhaul overnight leader Cam John. The performance puts Doull in prime position as he chases his second career Webex Players Series title, following his breakthrough win in Perth last year.
John, who began the day with a two-shot lead, carded three birdies in a 68 to finish two strokes back at 12-under par heading into Sunday’s finale.
Reflecting on his round, Doull was pleased with both his scoring and consistency.
“I played really solidly with no bogeys out there,” Doull said.
“It all came pretty easily. I had a lot of good numbers and a lot of friendly putts, so it was good.”
A defining feature of Doull’s round was an extraordinary trio of eagles, including a near hole-in-one at the short par-4 14th.
“I have only had one eagle all season, so to have three in one round is pretty cool,” he said.
“The first was from about 12 feet, then I drove the par-4 and rolled in a 25-footer, and the last one was on 16 just off the green. It was all pretty unexpected.”
Doull was once again supported by partner and WPGA Tour of Australasia player Kathryn Norris on the bag; a partnership he credits for his calm approach.
“It is very helpful. We talk through everything,” Doull said.
“We play together all the time, so we know each other’s games and what to say - and what not to say. It works really well.”
Despite holding the lead heading into the final round, Doull remains focused on process rather than outcome.
“I’m not really worried about winning. I just want to go out there and play my game,” he said.
“If I have the trophy in my hand at the end of the day, great. If not, it’s not the end of the world.”
It was also a standout day for the amateurs, with Queensland’s Billy Dowling signing for a 64, featuring six birdies to sit at 11-under par overall. Victoria’s Jazy Roberts produced one of the shots of the tournament, holing a 6-iron from 155 metres for an albatross on the par-5 seventh.
In the All Abilities competition, Lachie Wood leads at 2-under par, while Angus Hoey and Georgia Schwartz are joint leaders of the juniors at even-par heading into the final round.
Entry to the Webex Players Series Victoria is free for spectators, with Round Four broadcast live on Fox Sports 503 and Kayo Sports from 1pm–6pm AEDT.
