Having apologised for the practical joke he played on Justin Thomas on Thursday by placing a tampon in his compatriot’s hand after out driving him, Woods played the back nine, his first, in even par on Friday morning.

A string of pars from the 1st till the fifth had him safely inside the number to continue on the weekend, before three bogeys in his last four holes saw him drop to one-over and watching the completion of round two Saturday morning to ensure he continues his comeback.
