Australian Anthony Quayle has come home strong to claim a share of second at the Shigeo Nagashima Invitational Sega Sammy Cup on the Japan Golf Tour.
Starting the final day six shots back of 54-hole leader Jbe Kruger of South Africa, Quayle fired the low round of the day, an eight-under-par 64, to tie for second with Japan’s Naoyuki Kataoka on 20-under.
Meanwhile, Kruger closed with 67 to finish on 23-under and claim victory.
With a best finish of T12 so far this year across the Japanese, Australasian and DP World Tours, Quayle had been experiencing mixed form in 2023, including missing five cuts.
The 28-year-old improving with every round this week at North Country Golf Club to setup a strong second half of the year as he chases his goal of playing in America.
"I played really well, and I was really happy with my game. I really like this golf course; it sets up nicely for me," Quayle told the Japan Golf Tour website.
"I feel like this golf course allows me to play very aggressively. I'm an aggressive player and like to take on the game.
"Sometimes on certain Japanese golf courses, it's difficult for me because they're tight, whereas this week was more of what I'm used to playing and feeling comfortable on. It allowed me to play very aggressively and give my best."
