New South Welshman Harrison Endycott got off to a hot start at the Huntsville Championship on the Korn Ferry Tour, the 25-year-old sharing the round one lead following a seven-under 63.
Endycott was joined at the top of the leaderboard by American Zach Fisher, while China’s Martu Dou shares third following a 64 as he chases a third Korn Ferry Tour win and return to the PGA Tour.
After making the turn in a steady two-under Endycott, who hails from Avondale Golf Club in Sydney, went on a run. The now Scottsdale, Arizona resident making an eagle at the par-5 10th and back-to-back birdies at the 11th and 12th.
His hot streak cooled at the par-3 next where he recorded his lone bogey of the day, two more birdies at the 15th and 18th elevating him to a share of the lead at the event where he was T13 last year the first time the Huntsville Championship was played.
“Made a nice eagle on No.10, a really nice birdie up No.11 – that pin was tricky to get back to and I squeezed one in the back corner – and then made a pretty gettable birdie on No.12,” Endycott told the Korn Ferry Tour website. “I had one loose swing on No.13, but I wasn’t too panicked about it. It was nice to get on that little heater there.
“I have my lines and where I want to go at. I played well here last year and just stuck to that same plan. There are a few tee shots there you have to trust, and same with second shots into some greens as well. I did a really good job of that today. It was nothing amazing, just simple golf.”
Endycott's fellow Aussies Curtis Luck and Rhein Gibson share 57th at even par, while Steven Bowditch and Ryan Ruffels struggled on day one.
