Antcliff shot a four-under 68 on Sunday at Germany's Green Eagle Golf Courses and came within inches of a hole-in-one on the 17th.

He shares a one-stroke lead with England's Matthew Southgate who added 69 and the pair sit at five under ahead of the final round on Monday.

Antcliff has dropped only one shot in 36 holes and enjoyed a strong finish in the second round as he birdied the last three holes.

He said he was hitting the fairways well and his plan for the final round was to keep doing what he was doing.

"Good golf gets you into good positions. Keep doing that, good results happen," Antcliff said.

Scotland's David Law and Scott Jamieson, Holland's Darius van Driel and Italy's Edoardo Molinari are a shot off the lead.

The European Open is the first time fans have been allowed on site at an event on European soil since October 2019.

However the tournament started on Saturday and is being played over 54 holes due to potential quarantine issues for players, caddies and staff from the UK.

"It's so nice to see people out enjoying the golf," Southgate said.

"It's been very quiet and lonely out there at certain times through COVID with no spectators, they really build that atmosphere and make it feel special being part of the tournament."

Defending champion Paul Casey is five shots off the lead after adding a second round of 69 to his opening 75 to get back to level par.
