EQUIPMENT NOTES:
Zalatoris’ first PGA Tour win continues the strong introduction of Titleist’s new TSR range of drivers that Cam Smith also used to win The Open Championship at St Andrews and Joohyung Kim had in the bag for his maiden win last week. The American opts for the TSR3 model with a slightly older Fujikura Speeder shaft and used the combination to average 321 yards off the tee for the week.
-
The 25-year-old also uses the new range in his fairway wood, with his TSR2 carrying a strong loft of 13° while he uses the exceptionally popular Ventus range of shafts in the 3-wood in the same bend profile and flex as Smith has in his 3-wood.
-
Among the best ball strikers on Tour, Zalatoris mixes a hollow-body T200 utility iron with the cavity back T100 irons. Carrying the same shaft from his 4-iron to lob wedge, something of a rarity on Tour, Zalatoris hit 51 of 72 greens in regulation this week.
-
Zalatoris’ win gives Titleist golf balls 27 victories from 35 PGA Tour events in 2022.
QUOTE: “It still hasn't hit yet. I think I've always had the attitude of the job's not done and as great as it is to pull this off, I still feel like I've got some unfinished business going forward. It's obviously very satisfying, but this is the peak season for us obviously for the PGA Tour players and the grind continues.” – Will Zalatoris.
