  • Thompson referenced playing “Michael Thompson golf” in his post round interviews to secure his second PGA Tour win on Sunday, which includes putting and ball striking as key elements. Thompson ranked first in Strokes Gained: Putting for the week with his PING Anser 4 that is something of a throwback with a smooth cast face and a slated neck design to increase toe flow of the putter. Meanwhile, the 35-year-old hit over 83 percent of greens for the week and all 18 during Thursday’s opening round with his forged blade Blueprint irons, that marked a significant change in direction for PING after feedback from their Tour staff.
  • The 2013 Honda Classic winner is one of a growing number of PGA Tour players to carry a 7-wood in their bag, including Marc Leishman and Jason Dufner, however, Thompson’s PING G410 is lofted down to 18 degrees, making the club play more like a smaller headed 5-wood with an open face angle.
