EQUIPMENT NOTES:

  • Fitzpatrick is typically a player who gets comfortable with a piece of equipment and rarely changes. But of late, the Englishman has done more experimenting than usual, with a new shaft in play at the top end of his bag, different iron set makeup and a new wedge in the bag. Fitzpatrick has played Mitsubishi’s Tensei shafts in his driver and 3-wood for a long time, while he carried a Graphite Design shaft in his 7-wood. That recently changed when he added a Tensei in 85 grams in the older model G410 head.
  • Having added Titleist’s new T100 irons as his 4- and 5-iron, Fitzpatrick at one stage was carrying three different models, with a mixture of PING irons before returning to his trusty S55 from 6-iron down. Having generally carried a matching pitching wedge to his iron set, the 27-yeard-old also recently put a PING Glide 3.0 46° wedge in play.

  • Owner of one of the world’s best short games, and among the top putters on the planet, Fitzpatrick used a YES! flatstick for much of his career before Bettinardi made a custom model for the Ryder Cup player. His current putter has the same shape, neck style and C-Groove face as his previous model.

  • With his win, Fitzpatrick gives Titleist golf balls two of the three legs of the European Tour’s Spanish swing, with the third event – the Mallorca Open – to be contested this week.

QUOTE: "It's on the bucket list to win around Valderrama with the history that it has. To do it bogey-free on Sunday as well is extra special. I'm delighted.” – Matthew Fitzpatrick.
