EQUIPMENT NOTES:

  • Typically an above average ball striker and in the longer half of European Tour players, Armitage’s putting was the key to his final day birdie blitz that secured his first European Tour win and a spot in next week’s US Open at Torrey Pines. Armitage’s putter is an older model Odyssey O-Works head that has a White Hot insert face as opposed to the standard Microhinge of the retail version. The man known as ‘The Bullet’ also has a Stroke Lab shaft fitted in his putter, Odyssey blending steel and graphite to ideally place weight in the putter for improved consistency and stroke tempo.
  • The 33-year-old is one of a growing number of Tour players to opt for Srixon irons despite not being contracted to the Japanese manufacturer to play its products. Always popular at retail, the company’s latest forged irons (ZX7) have also found their way into the bag of Brooks Koepka and are a true players cavity back model offering some forgiveness combined with ball flight control.

  • Armitage is yet another of the players at the top of the men’s game opting to carry a higher lofted fairway wood in their bag. The Englishman carrying a 7-wood during his win in Germany, and hitting a significant number of tee shots with both his fairways throughout the week.

  • Armitage’s Monday victory gives Titleist a clean sweep of the major Tours this past week, with the company’s Pro V1 range of golf balls used to win the US Women’s Open, Memorial Tournament and on the European Tour.

QUOTE: “I'm an emotional guy, I'm struggling to keep a lid on it here. I was just trying to breathe and be calm, not touch my phone because that will be going berserk.” – Marcus Armitage.
