EQUIPMENT NOTES:

  • Until recently, Campillo was without a full equipment deal, despite playing much of the same clubs he now has in his Callaway bag since becoming part of the company’s Tour staff and no longer wearing an unbranded hat. The Spaniard’s bag is a mix of old and new models, while his iron set combines three different models offering more forgiveness in the long irons and complete control in the form of a traditional muscle back blade 8- and 9-iron.
  • Like many of his fellow Tour players, Campillo opts for a pitching wedge – his 46˚ JAWS MD5 – that matches his wedges rather than his iron model for increased control and spin.
  • Playing the 18th six times on Sunday to finally defeat Drysdale and claim his second European Tour win in his 250th start, Campillo’s putting was crucial. The 33-year-old’s work on the greens the statistical highlight of his winning week, Campillo using a traditionally shaped Odyssey putter model with a larger grip fitted that he holds with a cross handed technique.
  • Campillo’s win is the fifth from eight events on the European Tour in 2020 for Titleist’s Pro V1 and Pro V1x models.

QUOTE: “It's a great par four, 18. A tough hole. David was hitting some great shots into the hole and I had to make some putts. Three birdies out of six on 18 to win is something to be proud of.” – Jorge Campillo.
