EQUIPMENT NOTES:
- Smith's setup has remained mostly the same throughout the year with some minor changes relating to course conditions and setup for each of his wins. The last time the Aussie lifted a trophy came on the links of The Old Course, where he carried two utility 3-irons, with one built to play as a 2-iron for the hard and fast conditions. Since returning to America, Smith has put his trusty 7-wood back in the bag instead of the longer driving iron with the ability to hit higher shots into softer greens and improved performance from a variety of lies the likely driver for the decision.
-
The 29-year-old was an early adopter of Titleist's new TSR range of drivers and experimented with both the TSR2 and TSR3 models before settling on the latter and giving the new line its first major win at The Open. Offering more customisation via an adjustable weight track, and a centrally located maximum COR location for precise ball strikers, Smith has his TSR3 fitted with the same Fujikura Ventus shaft he has had in the bag for all four of his wins this year.
-
One of the best putters and wedge players in the game, Smith is fond of an all black look in his scoring clubs (and irons too). The World No.3 using matte black shafts along with heads finished in black, while his putter features a short slant neck to increase the amount of toe hang to match his arcing stroke.
-
Smith, who delivered Titleist golf balls a clean sweep of the men's majors in 2022 back in July, has used the Pro V1x in all four of his wins so far this year.
QUOTE: "I think once upon a time, everything had to start once upon a time. I think for sure there is a history aspect that is for certain missing, but it doesn't mean that the tournament is a bad tournament because of it. There's 48 of the best guys out here trying to compete and trying to win. In 10, 20 years' time, these could be the biggest events in the world. We're just not there yet." – Cam Smith.
