Victoria and New Zealand will go head-to-head for the girls’ championship in Friday’s final round, with the Kiwis having already secured the overall and boys titles with a round to spare at the 2026 Australian Junior Interstate Teams at Moonah Links.
The Kiwis remain undefeated through six rounds, beating Tasmania 6.5-1.5 on the morning of day three before being pushed by defending champions Queensland, ultimately prevailing 5-3 to become mathematically uncatchable in both the overall and boys’ standings.
Teresa Wang remains unbeaten for New Zealand, halving with Sophie Mann in the morning before producing a dominant 7&6 win over Rebekah Mizzi in the afternoon.
The recent Australian Junior Amateur runner-up, Wang, carried a four-shot lead into the final round last week before Victoria’s Amelia Harris charged home in the same group to claim the title.
“Last week I kind of choked a little bit on the last day, so coming into this week, I really wanted to do well, especially because I'm representing my country,” she said.
Attention now turns to Friday’s final round, where New Zealand and Victoria will meet head-to-head, with the girls’ championship still up for grabs.
Victoria sits one point behind and must win all four girls' matches to claim the title on countback, setting up a likely rematch between Wang and Harris.
“I’m really looking forward to it,” Wang said.
“Definitely a little bit nervous because of what happened last week, but it’s always really fun playing Amelia - I love learning and watching her play.”
Western Australia’s Isabella Leniartek, part of last year’s winning girls’ team, knows what is at stake heading into the decider.
“It was very special,” Leniartek said.
“The Interstate Series is my favourite week of the year, so last year it was just one of the most special weeks.”
Victoria’s Elbert Kim shared similar sentiments after winning last year’s boys title, though his side is out of contention this year, sitting second but two points adrift.
“It was a very meaningful title for me personally, because golf is obviously an individual sport and it’s one of the only events that I can win with my fellow teammates,” Kim said.
Victoria kept their girls' title hopes alive with a tight 3.5-2.5 win over NSW before a dominant 7-1 victory over Tasmania, but they remain 1.5 points behind New Zealand in the overall standings.
Western Australia sits half a point behind in third after halving 4-all with Queensland, before the ACT/NT boys posed a strong afternoon challenge. NT’s Samuel Rumpff beat Nate Johnson 4&3, while Amir Rezaie, Henry Kanis and Rhys Tremabath all pushed their WA opponents to the final hole, with WA ultimately prevailing 3-1.
NSW responded to their loss to Victoria with a 5.5-2.5 win over South Australia to sit just half a point behind WA in fourth.
Queensland is fifth, South Australia sixth, Tasmania seventh, and the ACT/NT eighth heading into Friday morning’s seventh and final round.
