The fog that appeared in Oregon on day one was back on day two and delayed the start of the second round of strokeplay by two and a half hours, with Young teeing it up on Bandon Trails after signing for a 66 on day one at Bandon Dunes.

Guan was also out on the Trails course of the hugely popular golf destination, having recorded a one-over-par round on the first day.

Starting on the 10th, Young got off to an interesting start with a double bogey at the par-4 11th followed by a birdie at the par-3 next. Two bogeys saw him make the turn in three over before a more settled second nine with two birdies saw the Royal Melbourne member sign for a two-over 73 and a share of 11th.

Young will now play American Mason Snyder in the first round of match play, while Guan take on the German Tiger Christensen having finished the strokeplay in a share of 35th.

Also starting on 10, Guan mixed four birdies with three bogeys for a one-under 70 that could have been better if not for a bogey on his final hole the par-5 9th.

Keaten Vo of America earned medallist honours at nine-under, two shots clear of Kiwi Jayden Ford and Grant Lester.

Five spots in the match play portion are yet to be confirmed, with 11 players set to play-off for the remaining places on Wednesday morning local time.

Three other Australians, Kai Komulainen, Jye Halls and Josiah Gilbert fell short of the one-over cut mark and will play no further part in the event.

Australia has a strong connection with the U.S. Junior Amateur, Min Woo Lee claiming the title in 2016 to become one of only three non-American winners of the championship since it came into existence in 1948.
