Titleist’s new 818 hybrids offer two varied designs and head profiles aimed at different players and swing types, while also incorporating technology from the Tour-proven 917 wood range.
Released alongside the 718 iron range, the new models – 818 H1 and H2 – debuted on the PGA Tour in July and instantly garnered a strong following among the best players in the world. With Russell Henley, Bernd Wiesberger, Andrew ‘Beef’ Johnston and Jordan Spieth among the players to have already added the hybrids, which the company calls “our longest, most consistent hybrids ever”, to their setup.
Both models incorporate the latest version of Titleist’s Active Recoil Channel (2.0), SureFit adjustable hosels and moveable weight SureFit CG technology, which has been added to a hybrid for the first time.

The adjustable hosel offers 16 varied settings of loft and lie and shafts from leading manufacturers Mitsubishi, Fujikura and Project X come as standard. With a wide spectrum of custom shaft options also available, 818 hybrids allow players to fully customise and match their hybrid to their game.
In addition to super charging the 818 hybrids with the SureFit technology from the 917 woods, Titleist also increased the moment of inertia (MOI) when compared to the previous 816 models by a substantial 10 percent that increases forgiveness along with a precisely placed centre of gravity (CG) to partner the improved distance delivered by the redesigned Recoil Channel.
“When building scoring clubs like 818H1 and 818H2, you have to think about distance in terms of playable distance,” said Director of Titleist R&D Metalwoods Development Stephanie Luttrell. “Playable distance is easy distance that launches high and lands soft.”
Improving that performance requires faster ball speeds, higher launch and a higher peak height of shot, which we achieved through our redesigned Active Recoil Channel 2.0 and improved MOI properties. Playable distance is also consistent distance that you can control.”

The H1 is more forgiving thanks to its larger club head and has been designed by the company’s engineers to best suit players who deliver the club with a sweeping attack angle.
Carrying a profile that will appeal to golfers who prefer the look of fairway woods, the H1offers higher launch and is available in five lofts from 19⁰ to 27⁰.
In contrast the H2 is designed with a profile pleasing to the eye of those who favour an iron-like look at address, and is designed for performance to match. The compact head design produces a penetrating ball flight and the H2 has been specifically designed for players with a steeper angle of attack and is offered in lofts ranging from 17⁰ to 23⁰.
