Three driver models – TSR2, TSR3, TSR4 – are complimented by three fairway woods – TSR2, TSR2+, TSR3 – in the new range that will be in golf shops around Australia from September 30, with fitting bookings now available.

The three models are designed to fit, and appeal to, various types of players, with new face technologies and aerodynamic refinements combining to create more speed resulting in increased distance.

“Titleist TSR represents the deepest, most complete, and most validated understanding of the tee shot ever held within our walls,” Director of Metalwood Development at Titleist Stephanie Luttrell said. “Every aspect of impact has been considered, constructed and optimised in service of our singular desire to produce more playable distance from every swing.

“New TSR drivers take everything that made TSi the most played driver on the PGA Tour and pack even more performance into every head. From new face technologies to CG (centre of gravity) improvements and aerodynamic refinements, TSR helps the golfer unlock more speed.”

Smith’s driver of choice at St Andrews was a TSR3, which was also in the bag of the runner-up Cameron Young. The pair far from alone in immediately taking a liking to the new models that were in the hands of 18 players the first week they were available on Tour at the Travelers Championship.

“I’ve loved it. It’s faster … and I feel like especially the toe miss for me, I haven’t gotten as much curve out of it, which is obviously a good thing,” Smith said. “It seems to be a little bit more consistent on my misses. I’ve put it right in play and it’s been great.”

TSR2 will appeal to the widest variety of players with its design for contact made across the entire face with a refined players shape.

Utilising a ‘Multi-Plateau VFT’ face which builds the face inward, layer-by-layer, to deliver consistent ball speed and greater forgiveness, the TSR2 offers high launch and low spin thanks to an optimised CG placement that also assists in ball speed gains.

Smith’s preferred model, the TSR3, offers greater adjustability as well as distance and feel improvements for more precise ball strikers.

A ‘Speed Ring VFT’ face centralises the maximum COR into a more precise location to push performance further for golfers who regularly hit the middle of the driver.

Similar in shape to the TSi3, with aerodynamic improvements, the mid-high launch and low spin model features Titleist’s ‘SureFit Adjustable CG Track System’ to allow players to dial in their ideal CG position and ball flight.

The smaller headed TSR4 is built for low spin, and will appeal to a smaller segment who will benefit from new adjustability.

Two adjustable weights create spin fine tuning opportunities in the Mid/low launch, low spin, 430cc head that uses the same face technology as the TSR2.

Among the aerodynamic improvements to decrease drag and increase clubhead speed across the three models is the a new ‘boat tail’ shape that moves the swing weight away from the sole.

All three models also use aerospace grade titanium and the adjustable ‘SureFit Hosel’ system, while every Titleist driver is tested for maximum allowable performance.

“Going from TS to TSi was a major leap in performance. This step from TSi to TSR is even bigger,” Vice President of Titleist Golf Club Marketing Josh Talge said.

Announced alongside the drivers, the TSR fairway woods represent a significant shift for Titleist in the category, and in the same way as the drivers incorporate a model for every golfer to benefit from the performance gains.

“Our number one goal was to optimise the CG and it is now as low as it has ever been on a Titleist fairway metal,” Talge said. “The lower the CG, the higher the launch. We want to get the weight down, so the golfer can get the ball up.

"By lowering the CG in each model through our Open Hosel Construction, we also improved the overall performance, including speed, launch angle, spin, flight, feel and forgiveness. Golfers want to see the golf ball get up in the air with their fairway metal, and with the new TSR we achieved that goal.”

The ’Open Hosel Construction’ sees weight removed from high near the heel to push the CG lower and closer to the face, while the look and feel have been tweaked based on Tour player feedback with the mission to improve the “four F’s: Flight, Feel, Form and Forgiveness” at the heart of the TSR range.

TSR2 is designed for forgiveness with the lowest CG for a high launch, mid spin flight that carries further. TSR2+ is larger, taller in the face and the most forgiving TSR fairway for golfers wanting a regular option from the tee that is also playable from the turf. TSR3 is focused on precision with a SureFit CG adjustable weight system and more boring flight.

“Combined with its Tour-inspired shaping and powerful sound and feel, the optimised performance of TSR fairways sets a new standard for the Titleist Speed Project,” Luttrell said.
