Golf has more than its fair share of cheerleaders but Golf Australia columnist John Huggan is not one of them. And the game is better for it.
In this episode of The Thing About Golf, host Rod Morri gets an insight into his passion for the game – born on the links of Scotland – which has taken him from outside the ropes as a young autograph-hunting fan, to a fine amateur player, award-winning writer and occasional caddie.
Unafraid to tackle any subject no matter who it might bring him into conflict with, the man known affectionately as 'Huggy' is often misunderstood as a writer who talks the game down or focusses on the negative.
But that is a ludicrously unfair characterisation. Spend any time with the man and you will understand his love and passion for the game – and what it can mean to and do for people – is at least the equal of anyone in the industry.
Here is our one-on-one chat with Huggan in Episode #9 of The Thing About Golf podcast.
