The PGA Tour ventures to historic Sedgefield CC this week for the Wyndham Championship. Here’s everything you need to know about the event, including course information, players to watch and TV times.
In an ever-changing golf world, the Wyndham Championship (formerly known as the Greater Greensboro Open) has been a constant on the PGA Tour since 1938.
It is the Tour’s sixth oldest event and best known for being the tournament Sam Snead won eight times over a 27-year period.
DEFENDING CHAMPION: Jim Herman (pictured right) produced blistering weekend rounds of 61-63 on his way to a one stroke victory over Billy Horschel. It was Herman’s third PGA Tour win.
COURSE: The tournament may be historic but so is the course it is played on. The tournament was hosted at the Donald Ross-designed Sedgefield 26 times between 1938 and 1976 when it moved to nearby Forest Oaks Country Club. Renovated in 2007 by Kris Spence, the tournament returned to Sedgefield in 2008 and has remained ever since.
PRIZEMONEY: US$6,000,000
72-HOLE SCORING RECORD: 258, Henrik Stenson (2017), JT Poston (2019).
PLAYERS TO WATCH: 2011 winner Webb Simpson has been a mainstay in the top three each of the past four years here and in 12 starts at the course has missed the cut just once and finished outside the top 11 only twice.
He was third last year and will hit the first tee Thursday with plenty of confidence after a final round 64 in Memphis, a score bettered only by Hideki Matsuyama on the day.

Fellow veteran Brandt Snedeker has also proved a ‘horse for the course’ at Sedgefield with six top 10’s in his 13 starts including a win in 2018.

He missed the cut at the Barracuda Championship last week but played some decent golf in the weeks prior to that so a familiar venue might just kick him up a notch.
Olympic bronze medallist C.T Pan will still be on a high after his heroics in Tokyo and after a T2 result here two years ago has shown he can play the course well enough to contend.
While it is his best result in three starts at Sedgefield, it would be fair to assume Pan’s confidence has lifted a notch after the Games and his first start back could be telling.
As the last event of the regular season the stakes are high for several players in the field, not the least of them Rickie Fowler.
While his troubles have been well covered in recent years, Fowler has never missed the end of year play-offs in his career but at 125 on the FedEx standings is in danger of doing so this year.
Fowler will be keen to avoid that indignity and having shown some signs of life in his game recently that extra motivation may come into play.
Working against him is that this is only his second career appearance at Sedgefield, a less than spectacular T22 the result when he teed up in 2016.
PAST AUSSIE WINNERS: Steve Elkington (1990).
AUSSIES IN THE FIELD: Aaron Baddeley, Rhein Gibson, Matt Jones, Cameron Percy, Adam Scott, John Senden,
